Have you asked yourself “Why don’t students know how to take
notes/study/manage time/read effectively?” or “How am I supposed to
teach my class AND academic skills?” In the midst of competing
priorities and a variety of academic experiences during COVID, many
students are experiencing challenges in their early college years. In
this interactive virtual workshop, participants will explore simple ways
to support students through academic skill-building both inside and
outside of the classroom. Participants will begin to think about how to
incorporate these strategies in small moments in their classes, which
encourage students to develop academic habits and continue to grow their
college success skills on their own. Participants will have an
opportunity at the end of the workshop to begin planning how they will
integrate these course resources and/or strategies with peer feedback.
The strategies shared can be applied in a variety of courses regardless
of enrollment or modality.
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to…
- Identify values and expectations of the course and find ways to explicitly share these with students
- Define
and discuss ways to integrate academic habits, such as time management,
study management, note taking, and critical reading, within and outside
of class time
