How students
are using (or misusing) generative AI tools like ChatGPT and Copilot has
become a pressing issue for instructors. However, many professors
aren’t sure of the capabilities, limitations, and opportunities that
generative AI presents. This workshop will help instructors develop an
understanding of generative AI and how it might impact their classes (in
both positive and negative ways). We will begin with an introduction
and overview of generative AI, before transitioning to an open
discussion about how it impacts our specific disciplines. We will also
be demonstrating some of the general principles of generative AI using
UC’s supported platform, Microsoft’s Copilot.
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Describe the capabilities and limitations of generative AI
- Discuss the impact generative AI might have in their courses
