Title: Increasing Engagement and Accountability with Embedded Questions in Kaltura Video Presentations: Lessons Learned
Description: Similar to the traditional struggles of students never opening their textbook or low-class attendance, the online professor’s challenge is whether students actually view video presentations and remain engaged. You have done the hard work of making the presentations, now let’s discuss a way to promote students viewing them! Embedding questions throughout your recorded presentations is a simple strategy to improve student engagement with the course content. UC resources are available to assist you with learning the technical side of embedding the questions within a Kaltura video. The analytics can also be used to gauge completion of the lectures and guide instruction based on the accuracy of responses. This presentation will focus on instructional decisions and implementing the strategy efficiently and effectively while avoiding frustration for you and students. We will also discuss how other professors may plan on incorporating this instructional tool within their online instruction.
Abstract: Kaltura Capture offers the ability to embed questions within video presentations; however, there are a number of instructional decisions to consider when determining the best way to utilize them within a course. This presentation will discuss several of the decisions we have made and pros and cons to consider. Additionally, we have learned some strategies (e.g., leaving a space within the recording to embed the question) that can save an instructor precious time when embedding the questions and troubleshooting suggestions for students.
